Lambton County OPP and the Walpole Island Police Service conducted a weapons related investigation on Walpole Island First Nation Sunday.

According to a post on social media from the Walpole Island First Nation Council, the bridge was closed and police weren’t allowing anyone to enter or exit during their investigation. The council called this an ‘active shooter situation.’

As a precaution, a ‘Hold and Secure’ and ‘Shelter-in-Place’ order was put in effect.

Police have since lifted that order and have reopened Chiefs Road South.

Police say there is no threat to public safety.
