The Ontario Special Investigations Unit has been called to investigate after a man was injured while fleeing during a traffic stop.

A London police officer says they saw the driver of a vehicle commit a series of Highway Traffic Act offences on Monday at 3 a.m.

The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle in the area of Marconi Boulevard and Noel Avenue and the male driver fled from the vehicle on foot.

Additional Uniformed Division officers and a member of the LPS Canine Unit were sent to the area to assist. The Canine Unit officer and his Police Service Dog (PSD) located and arrested the man. Police say the suspect sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the interaction.

The suspect was transported to hospital by paramedic services. He remains in hospital.

As a result of the admission to the hospital, the Special Investigations Unit was notified and has invoked their mandate. As such, all inquiries regarding the investigation are to be directed to the Special Investigations Unit at 416-622-0748 or 1-800-787-8529.
