A K9 officer with the Windsor police has helped make a successful arrest.

Just after 10 a.m. on Wednesday, police were called to a report of a vehicle theft in the 1900 block of McKay Avenue. Through an investigation, the WPS said a delivery driver parked their van, leaving the engine running, while delivering a package at a home.

While the delivery driver was out of the vehicle, a suspect got in, driving away in the vehicle.

Later in the afternoon, the white van was found abandoned near a wooded area in the 2300 block of South Cameron Boulevard. K9 Link helped officers search the area, sniffing out the suspect nearby, hidden behind trees.

A 34-year-old man has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
