A Windsor teen has brought home gold from the Special Olympics World Winter Games.

A 16-year-old from Windsor-Essex brought home gold from the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Italy.

Breanna Williams was the only athlete from Windsor-Essex to compete at the Games from March 15 to 18. She secured her spot on Team Canada after a stellar performance at the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Calgary last year, winning gold in the solo figure skating event.

These wins mark Williams’ first time competing at national and international levels. She has been a figure skater since the age of four.

“Breanna’s gold medal win is a testament to her hard work, perseverance, and passion for figure skating,” said the John McGivney Children’s Centre (JMCC) in Windsor, where Williams has been a long-time client. The JMCC specializes in rehabilitation and support services for children in Windsor-Essex.

“She has not only brought pride to Windsor-Essex, but also inspired athletes across Canada with her incredible achievement.”
