Windsor Spitfires fall in shootout to Spirit in Saginaw

A road game in Saginaw against the Spirit led to the Spits walking home empty handed.

Saginaw’s final goal in the shootout resulted in a 6-5 loss for the Spits.

Although the Spits put up a good fight and largely matched the Spirit - finishing the first period down 2-1, with one goal from Ryan Abraham.

The Spits starting the second period dominating the rink, with Ilya Protas scoring three consecutive goals, the final on a power play.

They entered the final period up 4-3, but were unable to hold the line. The Spirit scored two, with the Spits only able to lock down Noah Morneau’s single goal, heading into an overtime frame.

The overtime frame resulted in no goals for either team, and finally in the shootout, Saginaw managed to put one in the Spit’s net.

They’re back on the ice against the rival London Knights tonight.
