Winnipeg police have charged two people after officers allegedly found a backpack filled with firearms in a boarded-up suite.

Around 6 p.m. Friday, police said they were investigating an unrelated matter when they noticed a boarded-up suite at an apartment complex in the 400 block of Edmonton Street had been breached.

Officers went inside and arrested a man and a woman. After searching the suite, they said they found a backpack that belonged to the man, which contained an air pistol, a zip-gun in two pieces, and two .22-calibre rounds of ammunition.

A 28-year-old man was charged with six weapons-related offences and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order, as well as unlawfully in a dwelling house. A 29-year-old woman also faces the latter charge and was released on an appearance notice.

The man was detained in custody and the charges against him haven’t been tested in court.
