Advanced polls are now open in the Transcona provincial byelection.

Four candidates are competing for the legislative seat left vacant following the death of NDP MLA Nello Altomare in January.

  • Shannon Corbett, a vice principal at Transcona Collegiate, is looking to hold onto the seat for the NDP;
  • Former Transcona city councillor Shaun Nason is running for the Progressive Conservatives;
  • Brad Boudreau, a policy advisor to the federal Crown Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs minister, is the Manitoba Liberal Party candidate;
  • Olympic speedskater Susan Auch is running as an independent in the race.

Advanced voting started Saturday morning at two polling places in Transcona. Eligible voters can visit the Transcona Local Election Office at 100 Paquin Rd. until March 17, or All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church at 1500 Day St. until March 15.

Both polling locations are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Monday to Saturday, and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Voter eligibility information is available through the Elections Manitoba website.

Election Day in the Transcona byelection is on Tuesday, March 18.
