A woman has been arrested for allegedly bringing a balloon filled with bags of methamphetamine into Stony Mountain Institution last month.

According to police, the incident happened on Jan. 29 when a woman visiting an inmate was caught on video handing over a ‘suspicious bag.’

The visit was stopped immediately. Officers searched the inmate and found a balloon filled with individual bags of what appeared to be methamphetamine. About 97 grams was seized, which has an institutional value of more than $29,000.

A 30-year-old Portage la Prairie woman was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. She was released with a May 26 court date.

The investigation continues.
