An officer with the Brandon Police Service (BPS) is facing charges in connection with a September 2023 car crash that left a suspect with a broken arm.
According to the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU), the incident took place on Sept. 24, 2023, when officers were notified of an attempted arson.
The IIU alleges that the suspect fled the scene, which resulted in his being hit by a police cruiser outside BPS headquarters. The man was taken to the hospital where it was determined he had a broken arm.
The IIU investigated and determined charges should be laid against Const. Myran Hamm, who faces one count of assault causing bodily harm and one count of dangerous driving causing bodily harm. None of the charge have been proven in court.
The IIU will not comment further on the situation as it is before the courts.
