Colleen Bready’s Forecast: A blustery winter day in Manitoba

Light snow and strong winds are making for a blustery winter day on Tuesday across southern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario.

Some intermittent light snow will taper off during the day, courtesy of a low around Lake of the Woods in Ontario.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), a cold front associated with the low stretches back across the southern Prairies. Its chilly effects are noticeable Tuesday. Below-normal temperatures and strong, biting northwest winds are producing wind chill values that feel even colder.

Daytime highs across most of southern Manitoba will only reach between -11 C and -14 C Tuesday afternoon. For perspective, the forecast high for Winnipeg is -13 C, while the normal high for late February is -6 C.

Areas closer to the Ontario border will be even colder, while temperatures in northwestern Ontario closer to the low will be milder, near -7 C.

The sun will shine on much of northern Manitoba Tuesday.

A second cold front over central regions will bring mid to upper minus-teen temperatures to those areas this afternoon, while regions furthest north will see highs closer to -20 C.

Below-normal temperatures will continue on Wednesday in the south before a mild reprieve on Thursday into Friday. It won’t last long, though—temperatures will tumble Friday afternoon.

Meanwhile, ECCC said warmer air will also bring waves of snow to the central and northern Prairies starting Wednesday.
