Manitoba weather: A snowy start to the week

We’re off to a snowy start to the week in Manitoba on Monday.

Northern regions are up first, with two to four centimetres of snowfall expected in much of the northwest on Monday afternoon, with lesser amounts in the northeast.

Meanwhile, a low is expected to develop in the lee, or east side of the Rockies, that will bring snow as it quickly heads east, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).

The weather agency says the system will bring five to 10 centimetres of snowfall to the southern Interlake. ECCC forecasts five centimetres in Gimli, starting Monday evening.

Much of the rest of southern Manitoba, including Winnipeg, could receive up to five centimetres on Monday night, according to ECCC.

Snow is expected to spread across northwestern Ontario by late Monday night or overnight and continue on Tuesday, with up to 5 centimetres forecast during the day.

Expect cloudy skies and colder, below normal temperatures to continue in Winnipeg through Wednesday, before a nice warmup and some sunshine by Thursday.

It won’t last long, though – much colder temperatures arrive on Friday night, inconveniently timed for the weekend.
