Staff from two child and family services organizations hit the picket lines Tuesday morning and while core services may be intact, families may notice a reduction in services.
Workers from Metis Child, Family and Community Services (CFCS) and Michif Child and Family Services (CFS) went on strike after a new agreement could not be reached over the weekend.
Members are represented by MGEU Locals 383, 384, 385 and 422.
Kyle Ross, president of the MGEU told CTV News Winnipeg workers are seeking wage parity with others who do the same work at different agencies in Manitoba.
“They’ve taken the drastic step of going on strike, but we are hopeful we can resolve this with some bargaining,” Ross said.
He said essential service agreements are in place during the strike action to provide core services.
