A plane crash at Toronto Pearson International Airport is having an impact on Winnipeg travellers.
Crews responded to a crash on the Pearson runway involving a Delta Airlines plane arriving from Minneapolis Monday afternoon.
Tyler MacAfee, vice president of external affairs with the Winnipeg Airports Authority (WAA), said some flights to Toronto from Winnipeg will be delayed or potentially cancelled due to the ongoing situation.
“In addition, we’re seeing some flights turning around and coming back to the originating airport,” he said. “We’re seeing some flights divert into Winnipeg. So, flights that were already up in the air that had to change plans, so some of those flights are now coming to Winnipeg.”
MacAfee said the WAA team is in place and ready, noting diversions to Winnipeg are common due to the geographic location.
“Diversions aren’t unique to Winnipeg, but this situation is,” he said.
MacAfee said passengers should be patient, as airlines are working hard to get them to their destination safely.
