A landfill in Brandon is temporarily closed after an early morning fire.
The city said in a news release a fire broke out in an active cell Monday morning at the Eastview Landfill.
Emergency crews responded to the incident and are still working to put out the flames.
The city said given the nature of the landfill, smoke may pose a health hazard. It noted necessary precautions are being taken to ensure the safety of the staff and the public. Folks are asked to avoid the area if possible.
The city also said regular refuse and recycling collection will not be impacted.
