A Winnipeg man left with a hefty repair bill after he accidentally filled his vehicle with diesel fuel is getting compensated by the gasoline company.

Greg Braun filled up his 2015 Volvo S60 with what he believed was V-Power gasoline at the Shell station on Kenaston Boulevard on Dec. 20, 2024. A few days later, his car stalled.

He said an inspection from mechanics found the car was filled with diesel fuel. Braun believes diesel fuel was accidentally put in the tank for V-Power gasoline when it was being refuelled at Shell.

The total repair bill was roughly $1,200.

Braun was trying to get compensation from Shell for several weeks following the repairs. On Wednesday, he told CTV News Winnipeg that the company that owned the gas station has sent him a cheque covering the full cost of repairs. Braun said he was happy with the outcome.

Shell Canada confirmed to CTV News Winnipeg that the issued has been resolved.
