CTV’s Taylor Brock has more on the death of a 56-year-old man after getting attacked by a pack of dogs in a Manitoba community.

A 56-year-old man died last month following a dog attack on a Manitoba First Nation.

According to RCMP, the man was attacked by five dogs at a home on Keeseekoowenin Ojibway First Nation on Feb. 21.

When officers got to the scene, they found him lying motionless and face down in the snow while the dogs attacked him.

EMS could not get out of their vehicle due to concerns for their safety but attempted to distract the dogs with an airhorn and siren.

As an officer got out of his car, he yelled at the dogs to get their attention off the victim. However, the dogs then became aggressive towards the officer.

As the officer tried to approach the victim, he took out his gun and was forced to shoot in the direction of the dogs. The Mountie shot two and killed two dogs, while the other three ran from the scene towards the back of the home.

EMS was then able to get out of the ambulance and provide medical attention to the man who sustained serious injuries. The victim was taken to a hospital in Brandon and later taken to Winnipeg, where he was treated and released into the care of his family.

On Feb. 23, the man died while at a hotel in Winnipeg.

The two dogs killed at the scene are being examined.

The investigation continues.
