The Manitoba government hosted a Rally for Canada on Sunday afternoon

Red, white, and not for sale.

That was one message Manitobans shared Sunday afternoon during a Rally for Canada on the Manitoba Legislative grounds.

Hundreds of people donned jerseys and waved flags during the special event celebrating all things Canadian.

“It’s amazing to see people showing their Canadian pride,” Premier Wab Kinew told CTV News. “We put out the call and people responded overwhelmingly – they’re proud of Canada.”

Kinew announced the event in late March following a call with his provincial counterparts about U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

The Rally for Canada served as a way for Manitobans to show solidarity against Trump’s threats of annexation.

“A lot of kids are worried about all this stuff they’re seeing on TV with Trump and everything,” Kinew said. “I just want everyone to know we’re never going to be the 51st state, and we’re always going to be the true north strong and free.”

The rally featured musical performances from the likes of Fred Penner, the Spirit Sand Singers, and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.

There were also plenty of activities happening on the grounds including street hockey, bouncy castles, face painting, a craft station, and an obstacle course.

The total attendance for the rally wasn’t available late Sunday afternoon, but a government spokesperson told CTV News about 2,500 people were there at the event’s peak.
