A Manitoba man is feeling sentimental after winning $1 million on a recent Lotto 6/49 draw because he and his dad used to play the lottery and always thought the pair would win.

Now, Richard Hall of Ile-des-Chenes has won the April 12 Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball draw.

“My dad always played. We played together on PlayNow,” he said in a news release. “He always thought he’d win, and he passed away a few years back.”

Hall added he kept thinking back to his father and wondered what his reaction would be.

“It would’ve been over the top,” he said.

Hall was notified by e-mail that he won the prize and initially thought it was a free play. When he opened it, a screen he had never seen before opened up, where he saw he won $1 million. He called the Western Canada Lottery Commission to confirm he won.

As for his plans for the winnings, Hall said he is taking a practical approach by putting it into savings and investing. He has also said he is looking at building a pool for his children and grandchildren to enjoy.

Hall won the prize with a white ball selection numbered 30328941-01.
