Manitoba weather forecast: Snow tapering off, warmer weather scheduled next week

Colleen Bready has your current conditions and updated weather forecast for March 28, 2025.

It might be too early to say that March is going out like a lion – but after Winnipeg’s wild weather ride over the past day, you couldn’t be blamed for thinking it.

A low pressure system that triggered snowfall warnings for much of southern Manitoba brought significant snowfall to some areas, while not much to others.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) said an intense band of snow that roared through Winnipeg early Thursday evening dumped nearly 10 centimetres on the northeast area of the city, while only one or two cm were reported near the south Perimeter Highway.

Elsewhere, the weather agency reported 15-25 cm of snow fell over Riding Mountain National Park, as of early Friday morning.

Snowfall warnings continue for regions across southern Manitoba north of Winnipeg Friday afternoon, but not for long.

ECCC said the heavy band of snow will weaken throughout the day on Friday, and that conditions will improve significantly in the afternoon.

Still, watch for freezing drizzle and light snow this afternoon across the south, tapering to flurries in the evening.

Snowfall warnings continue for northwestern Ontario, where significant snowfall, ice pellets and freezing are all expected Friday, before conditions should improve tonight.

Meanwhile, northern Manitoba will enjoy sunshine on Friday.

A ridge of high pressure will build over our region this weekend as spring break gets underway.

The first half of the week will be cool for this time of year in Winnipeg, with daytime highs remaining below freezing.

A nice warmup comes by midweek, with temperatures right around the normal high of 4 C for this time of year.
