Colleen Bready’s Forecast: More severe weather possible for parts of Manitoba

After tornadoes on Tuesday, much of southern Manitoba is bracing for the possibility of more severe weather on Wednesday.

Temperatures have cooled off considerably, with highs in the low 20s expected this afternoon. However, humidity levels are high.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a yellow watch for severe thunderstorms for most of southern Manitoba, including Winnipeg, Brandon and Dauphin.

The weather agency said storms should form along a frontal boundary moving east across southwestern Manitoba Wednesday afternoon. As the storms travel east/northeast, they could produce hail up to four centimetres, strong and gusty winds, and heavy rainfall.

ECCC said 30 to 50 mm of localized rain could fall in thunderstorms, while wind gusts could reach 90 km/h or higher.

The threat of these storms developing will last throughout afternoon into this evening.

This comes after ECCC confirmed three tornadoes on Tuesday—one east of Manitoba and a pair south of Carman. No damage was reported.

The weather agency is investigating reports of a fourth tornado southeast of Dauphin on Tuesday.

Showers are likely across central Manitoba on Wednesday, while northern regions will be sunny.

It will also likely be a soggy Wednesday afternoon in showers in parts of northwestern Ontario.
