It’s a sure sign that spring is right around the corner.

The Nestaweya River Trail is closed for the season after a 68-day run.

On Sunday, The Forks announced crews are no longer monitoring or maintaining the ice and warns people to stay off the rivers.

The river trail opened on New Year’s Eve this winter and stretched six kilometres at its peak. The multi-use path ran from Churchill Drive on the Red River to the Hugo Docks on the Assiniboine.

The Forks said the 68-day season was longer than its 56-day average, and “far eclipses last year’s dismal nine days”. However, it didn’t surpass the 76-day record set in 2019.
