An opening date for the new Costco in west Winnipeg is starting to get narrowed down.
In a news release, commercial real estate firm Shindico confirmed the new store location that will be near the Red River Ex grounds and Assiniboia Downs will be opening in late 2025.
It said construction is already underway on the 166,984-square-foot store.
One of the original renderings for the store showed a gas station as well, and a prototype included 923 parking spots.
In early January 2025, a report to city hall recommended expanding the Costco site slightly to allow for more parking and loading areas.
The entire project is part of the Westport Festival development.
“We’re very excited to have Costco join our Westport development. They will be a great amenity for all of Western Manitoba and will spur more retail development at Westport,” said Sandy Shindleman, the founder and chairman of Sindico, in a news release.
While late 2025 is still a vague timeline for opening Costco, Justin Zarnowski with Shindico told CTV News, “Shindico is certain they want to be open as soon as possible, certainly for the Christmas season.”
