Prolific offender facing nearly 70 charges connected to months-long crime spree: Winnipeg police

The Winnipeg Police Service has charged a prolific offender with nearly 70 offences in connection to a months-long property crime spree in the city.

According to police, the incidents took place primarily in Winnipeg’s south end between August 2024 and February 2025.

The WPS alleges the suspect, a 27-year-old Winnipeg man, was involved in the following incidents:

  • Aug. 28, 2024: A 2009 Sierra 1500 was stolen from a gas station in the 1200 block of Pembina Highway while the driver was paying.
  • Sept. 6, 2024: A customer’s jacket containing keys and a wallet was stolen from a restaurant in the 100 block of Pembina Highway. The victim’s 2023 Honda Civic Sport was then stolen, and several fraudulent transactions were made on her credit card. Later that day, the same suspect broke the window of a parked 2019 Volkswagen Jetta in the 1300 block of Border Street. When the victim went to assess the damage to his car, the suspect confronted and threatened to kill him. Shortly after, the suspect stole a Fender electric guitar, a laptop, an iPad Pro, and various electronics valued at over $4,000 from a commercial space in the 1000 Block of St. James Avenue.
  • Oct. 12, 2024: A customer’s car keys were stolen from her purse at a hair salon in the 700 block of Corydon Avenue. The victim’s 2023 Nissan Rogue was then stolen.
  • Oct. 15, 2024: Two employees had their purses stolen from an animal hospital in the 2700 block of Pembina Highway. The suspect stole one of the employee’s 2016 Chevrolet Equinox.
  • Oct. 15, 2025: A 2012 Kia Optima was stolen from the 800 block of St. Mary’s Road.
  • Between Oct. 15 and 16, 2024: The suspect broke the window of a business in the first block of Sage Creek Boulevard and stole a laptop and computer monitor.
  • Oct. 16, 2024: The suspect broke two windows at a restaurant in the 1500 block of Dakota Street and stole $2,000, a cash tray, and six bottles of liquor.
  • Dec. 17, 2024: A wallet was stolen from a parked car in the 900 block of Corydon Avenue.
  • Dec. 22, 2024: The suspect stole a jacket containing car keys from a restaurant in the first block of Island Shore Boulevard. A 2025 Honda Civic EX was stolen.
  • Dec. 31, 2024: The suspect got into a parked vehicle in the 200 block of St. Anne’s Road with a woman and infant inside. The suspect then stole the woman’s iPhone 13 valued at $1,300.
  • Jan. 2, 2025: The suspect smashed the passenger window of a 2009 Honda Civic in the parking lot of a restaurant in the 200 block of Marion Street. About an hour later, the suspect stole a cellphone and wallet from a parishioner’s jacket at a church in the 400 block of Lakewood Boulevard. The victim’s credit card was used to make several fraudulent transactions.
  • Jan. 5, 2025: A cellphone and wallet were stolen from a temple in the 3500 block of Pembina Highway. The victim’s credit card was used to make fraudulent transactions at a gas station.
  • Jan 7, 2025: Three wallets and an electric guitar were stolen from the staff room of a music school in the 500 block of St. Anne’s Road. The victims’ debit and credit cards were used to make fraudulent transactions at two convenience stores.
  • Jan. 8, 2025: The suspect entered a parked vehicle in the parking lot of a music school in the 300 block of North Town Road and stole a wallet. The victim’s credit card was used to make fraudulent transactions at a store in the 1500 block of Kenaston Boulevard.
  • Jan. 13, 2025: The suspect went to a restaurant in the 2000 block of Pembina Highway and stole property from two people, which included bags, jackets, and wallets. The victims’ credit cards were used to make transactions at a gas station.
  • Jan. 15, 2025: A purse was stolen from the lobby of a trade school in the first block of Scurfield Road. The suspect also entered the building’s office spaces and stole a laptop and desktop computer valued at about $2,700. The victim’s credit card was used at a convenience store and gas station.
  • Feb. 8, 2025: A wallet was stolen from a 2011 Toyota Corolla in a parking lot in the 1100 block of St. Mary’s Road.
  • Feb. 11, 2025: The suspect broke the window of a parked 2019 Hyundai Ioniq in the 100 block of Meadowood Drive and stole a wallet. The victim’s credit card was used to make fraudulent transactions.

On Feb. 12, police searched the suspect’s home, where they arrested him.

The suspect has been charged with 68 offences, including theft of a motor vehicle, theft under $5,000, and fraud under $5,000. He is in custody.

None of the charges have been proven in court.
