The Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO) is welcoming its Grand Chief back into the fold.

Grand Chief Jerry Daniels is returning to his role following a leave of absence.

In December, SCO said Daniels would be on leave for an “undetermined length of time for health reasons.” The organization also stated it was holding a chiefs-in-summit meeting this month regarding Daniels.

Chief Cornell McLean of Lake Manitoba First Nation filled in as acting Grand Chief during Daniels’ absence.

Daniels was re-elected as SCO Grand Chief for a third term in 2024.

“Grand Chief Daniels’ commitment to advancing the goals of our SCO Nations, Chiefs, and SCO staff remains unwavering, as we all continue to work toward securing a brighter future for our communities,” the Southern Chiefs’ Organization said in a statement issued Thursday.
