What’s open and closed in Winnipeg on Good Friday and Easter

The Easter long weekend is coming up, which means several businesses and city services will be closed or operating at reduced hours.

This year, Good Friday falls on April 18. However, Manitoba does not recognize Easter Sunday or Monday as statutory holidays. Still, some businesses and facilities may be closed or operating at reduced hours on these days.

Here is a list of what’s open and closed over Easter weekend.

City Services

All civic offices in Winnipeg will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday.

Recycling and garbage will be collected as regularly scheduled for people with Friday or Monday as their collection days.

The Brady Road Landfill will be open from 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Monday, while the Brady 4R Winnipeg Depot will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on those days. The Pacific 4R and Panet 4R depots will both be closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday.

Winnipeg Transit will run on a Sunday schedule on Good Friday.

All libraries are closed on Friday and Sunday. Regular operating hours are in place on Saturday, with the following branches open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday: Millennium, Bill and Helen Norrie, Henderson, Louis Riel, Pembina Trail, St. James-Assiniboia, and West Kildonan.

The only indoor pools open on Friday and Monday are the Pan Am Pool from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Cindy Klassen Rec Complex from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and the Margaret Grant Pool from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Indoor pools are open regular operating hours on Saturday and close by 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The fitness centres at the Pan Am Pool and Cindy Klassen Rec Complex are also open on Friday and Monday the same hours as the indoor pools.

The Animal Services Agency is closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday. It will be open regular business hours on Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Brookside, Transcona and St. Vital cemeteries will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. over the Easter long weekend; however, the administration office at Brookside will be closed.

Museums and Galleries

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Sunday and closed on Monday.

The Manitoba Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and closed on Monday.

The Winnipeg Art Gallery—Qaumajuq is closed on Friday and Monday, but open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Shopping

The Grant Park Shopping Centre is closed on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

St. Vital Centre, Kildonan Place, Outlet Collection Winnipeg, and Garden City Shopping Centre will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Good Friday and closed on Easter Sunday.

CF Polo Park will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

All Liquor Marts in Winnipeg and Brandon will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Good Friday and Easter Sunday, except for the True North Square location, which will be closed. Rural hours vary by location.
