Winnipeg police investigating after man stabbed by roommate

The Winnipeg Police Service is investigating after a man was allegedly stabbed by his roommate in the city’s West Kildonan area.

The investigation began around 11:35 p.m. on Tuesday when police responded to the sub 100 block of Winestock Place after a caller made a report of an unknown man at their door with injuries.

When officers got to the scene, they found a 23-year-old man with stab wounds. The victim told police he was attacked by his roommate in the sub 100 block of Blackthorne Bay. He was taken to the hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable condition.

Around 12:10 a.m. on Wednesday, officers went to a home Blackthorne Bay where the found the suspect with self-inflicted injuries. He was taken into custody and then to the hospital.

Inside the Blackthorne Bay home, officers also found a dog with stab wounds. The dog was taken to the animal hospital and treated for its injuries.

The major crimes unit took over the investigation and charged the suspect – a 29-year-old Winnipeg man – with aggravated assault, causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, and possession of a weapon.

He’s in custody.
