The Winnipeg Police Service is reporting spending under budget in its latest quarterly report.
The fourth quarter financial report was released in the city’s finance committee agenda, and shows the service is under budget by $4.7 million, totalling $272.8 million in expenses.
“Expenses exceeded budget; however, the expenditures were offset by increased revenues related to Police Services, traffic enforcement and government grants,” the report said.
The report shows the service had a 14 per cent increase in criminal record checks in 2024, increasing their budget by $1.3 million.
They were also over budget by $4.1 million in the police services section, due to special duty at retail establishments.
The service’s overtime spending also increased, up 34 per cent from 2023, resulting in the service going slightly overbudget. The report said the increase in overtime used was due to “the number of homicides, major critical incidents, traffic fatalities, and overall increases in violent crime.”
The report will be discussed when the finance committee meets April 17.
