Humid, showery Friday followed by weekend refresh for the Maritimes

A muggy feel to the air to close out this week, but relief isn’t too far away. CTV meteorologist Kalin Mitchell shares when the humidity levels will fall.

A ridge in the jet stream and a southerly flow of air up the eastern seaboard has bumped up both temperature and humidity for the Maritimes to end the week.

Dew point temperatures – a measure of moisture in the air – will be in the mid-to-high teens both Thursday and Friday. Some will find that level of humidity uncomfortable, particularly when combined with hotter temperatures.

Dew point temperatures are forecast to fall back into the low teens this weekend as drier air flows into the Maritimes out of northern Quebec.

The change in humidity comes behind a cold front moving across the region on Friday. The weather front will bring showers across the Maritimes and a risk of localized thunderstorms.

Due to localized downpours and thunderstorms, rainfall amounts will vary across the Maritimes.

Lighter showers for most will only produce a few to several millimetres. Heavy showers and thunderstorms could produce 20-to-40 mm of rain for the specific communities they move over. The higher rain totals are most likely in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.

Rain, showers, and fog will be most widespread in the Maritimes through Friday morning. There will be sunny breaks, isolated showers and thunderstorms, Friday afternoon and evening.

Plenty of sunshine follows for the weekend and, despite humidity falling, temperatures will remain near-to-slightly above average for early July. High temperatures will range from the low-to-high 20s on both days.
