Expansion project kicks off to add 60 long-term care beds in Quispamsis, N.B.

The Government of New Brunswick says work is underway on the Shannex expansion project, a development to support the long-term care sector.

A groundbreaking ceremony took place on Monday for the project, which will add 60 long-term care beds to Shannex’s Parkland in the Valley in Quispamsis.

In a news release from the province, the government says the project aims to expand capacity at Shannex’s Quispamsis campus to better serve seniors in the region.

“At the heart of this project is our dedication to improving the lives of seniors,” says Seniors Minister Lyne Chantal Boudreau in the news release.

The province also calls it an “urgent project,” and has committed to adding 240 nursing home beds at sites operated by Shannex in the next two years.

“We’re moving quickly to build more nursing homes to reduce the impact on our hospitals and ensure seniors can get the right care,” says Premier Susan Holt.

The new facility is expected to be completed late next year. The project comes as part of a recently unveiled strategy from the government, which includes bringing 624 new long-term care beds in the province.

This strategy is supported by a $993-million pledge in the 2026 to 2027 budget.

“By working together, we are helping seniors live with dignity, comfort and with the support they need – when they need it most,” says Boudreau.
