Reenactor groups from across the region set up camp at the living history museum in Prince William, N,B., offering an interpretation of American, British, and New Brunswick military history on Saturday and Sunday. This year’s ‘Military Muster’, which has been held at Kings Landing for decades, included musket demonstrations, medical displays, and recruitment trials. “Having the public here means we have a great forum to share some local history and folklore in beautiful surroundings,” says Xander Warren, of the Nova Hollandia Reenactment group. “We’ve heard a lot of engaging conversations, lots of people learning history they didn’t know, and a lot of interest in the fur trade and 17th century armour.” More than 800 school students attended the event’s “education day” on Friday. Steve Fowler, a historical reenactor with DeLancey’s Brigade Historical Re-enactors, said the Kings Landing event allows the group to share stories with a broader audience. “We want to talk to people, it’s what reenactors love to do,” said Fowler. “’Living history’ is what the hobby is called. The idea is that you put on their clothes, you pick up their weapons, and you pick up their habits, and you want someone to share this with.
