A New Brunswick man has been sentenced to two years in prison for child sexual abuse-related offences. Police executed a search warrant at a residence in Petit-Rocher-Ouest as part of an ongoing investigation on March 15, 2023. A 53-year-old man was arrested at the scene. Police also seized several electronic devices. Daniel Rene Frenette appeared in Bathurst provincial court on March 25, 2024, and was charged with: He pleaded guilty to possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material on Dec. 11, 2025. According to the Canadian Centre for Child Protection, the term “child sexual abuse and exploitation material” has replaced the term “child pornography” under Canada’s Criminal Code. Frenette returned to court on Tuesday and was sentenced to 24 months in prison. He was also ordered to register with the National Sex Offender Registry and provide a DNA sample.
