Two major events are happening in northeast Edmonton this weekend, and traffic and weather could impact both. Post Malone, Jelly Roll, and Carter Faith will perform at Commonwealth Stadium as part of the Big Ass Stadium tour on Friday and Saturday. The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) says Stadium Road will be closed from 92 Street to 112 Avenue between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. both nights. Drivers are encouraged to use other routes. There are also thunderstorms in the forecast for both Friday and Saturday. The City of Edmonton, which owns Commonwealth Stadium, says the shows will go ahead rain or shine. “Small, collapsible umbrellas without pointed tips are permitted inside the venue, but large umbrellas are prohibited,” city spokesperson Christina Chu wrote in an email to CTV News Edmonton. “If extreme weather occurs, the event organizers - Live Nation and Ticketmaster - will provide more information to concert attendees.” Explore Edmonton says KDays is also bringing in the crowds, with an 11 per cent increase in attendance between the start of the festival and Wednesday from the same period last year. Road construction in the area is also affecting access as several nearby routes are under construction or operating with reduced lanes. “We are anticipating a busy weekend, and in addition to KDays guests, we will also have thousands of concert attendees travelling in the area to get to the stadium,” Jessie Radies of Explore Edmonton wrote in an email to CTV News Edmonton. “We strongly encourage guests to plan their visit in advance, allow additional travel time and, where possible, consider alternative transportation options such as the LRT, drop off, taxies, or rideshare services.” On Thursday evening, EPS issued a traffic advisory about Wayne Gretzky Drive, warning of congestion in the area after parking lots at the Edmonton Expo Centre hit capacity.
