N.B. RCMP continues to investigate disappearance and homicide of Bathurst girl, five years later

The RCMP is continuing its investigation into the disappearance and homicide of a girl from Bathurst, N.B., nearly five years after she was reported missing.

Madison Roy-Boudreau was last seen getting into a grey Ford Ranger around 7:30 a.m. on May 11, 2021, in Bathurst, according to a news release from the RCMP. She was reported missing that same day.

Roy-Boudreau was 14 at the time of her disappearance.

“In the days and weeks that followed, exhaustive investigative efforts were made to locate Madison,” reads the news release.

Search efforts have involved specialized RCMP units, ground search and rescue volunteers and several partner agencies. Recently, drones and ground penetrating radar have also been employed in the investigation, according to an announcement from Cpl. Hans Ouellette of the New Brunswick RCMP on X.

“Together these efforts have covered one of the largest search areas ever undertaken in an investigation of this kind in Canada,” says Ouellette.

On Aug. 11, 2021, her disappearance was ruled a homicide by the investigation team and the New Brunswick RCMP’s Major Crime Unit assumed lead of the file.

“We’re not able to share specific information to protect the ongoing investigation, but we have reason to believe Madison was in the Middle River area after she was last seen in Bathurst,” says Ouellette. “We continue to work to find Madison and bring answers to her family, and her community.”

Roy-Boudreau was wearing a grey sweater, a pair of camouflage pants and silver-coloured shoes. She’s described as being five-foot-four and weighing 119 pounds. She has brown eyes and brown hair.

No charges have been laid in the investigation.
