SiRT investigating after man injured in collision with N.B. RCMP vehicle

The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating after a man sustained a serious injury following a collision with an RCMP vehicle in Hartland, N.B.

The police vehicle collided with a side-by-side ATV near the intersection of Rockland Road and Clark Street Sunday evening, according to preliminary information from SiRT. The driver was responding to an urgent call with emergency equipment activated, said the news release.

The ATV driver was taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with a broken wrist and other injuries.

SiRT investigates all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer, on or off duty, in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.

SiRT has assumed responsibility for this investigation given the serious nature of the injuries, said the release.
