‘Dream come true’: Halifax electronic duo’s single climbs the charts after winning competition

A Halifax electronic music duo has watched their single climb through the charts after winning a competition with iHeartRadio.

iHeartRadio’s Future Star program spotlights emerging talent by providing national radio play and promotion for different artists each month.

April’s Future Stars collaborated on a new tune called “Spin.”

PINEO & LOEB say they produced a pack of beats and sent them to JRDN, a Juno Award-winning Canadian R&B artist born in Halifax.

The three of them went on to create their hit single with the beat JRDN said he gravitated to.

LOEB said the music “came together magically” as part of a DJing tour around his birthday.

“We started the beat in Mexico, this one particularly with a friend playing the acoustic guitar, and that gave it a unique sound,” he explained to Crystal Garrett on CTV Your Morning Atlantic.

“We were on tour, maybe having a little tequila in the studio,” added PINEO. The duo says they knew JRDN would be perfect to collaborate with.

“We sent the song to JRDN and then, whenever we got it back in our email we were like, wow this is special.”

The R&B artist says he knew of PINEO & LOEB and followed them on social media.

“They hit me up in the DMs like, ‘Man, we’d love to do some music together,’” said JRDN. “It took a while to get it finished but as soon as we finished it, we knew right away that it was something special.”

The artists got support from Music Nova Scotia and hired a radio tracker. Winning the iHeartRadio competition with Spin added “kindling on the fire,” according to PINEO.

“That really made it take off, once it got picked for that,” added LOEB.

PINEO said seeing the single move up the charts is “a dream come true.”

“We’ve been working 15 years together and this is our first hit on the radio across Canada and we’re super grateful to work with JRDN on this,” he added.

JRDN said it’s the first time he’s been in the Top 30 in a while. “So, thanks to the guys for making that great music,” he said.

The duo says moving forward they’ll be touring all summer through the U.S., across Canada, and in South America later this year, too.

“So, keeping busy on the road and definitely want to do another collaboration with this man,” PINEO says gesturing to JRDN.

PINEO & LOEB are scheduled to perform in Charlottetown on Friday then again on Jul. 4.

They’re also set to perform in Halifax on Saturday, and Capital Region Rural District, N.B., on Aug. 6.
