The number of Nova Scotians on the provincial family doctor waitlist has decreased again. As of Sept. 1, the Need a Family Practice Registry (NFPR) is down by 1,811 with a new total of 52,771 residents on the waitlist. The last published amount was on Aug. 1 with a total of 54,582 on the registry. The September NFPR report was released on Thursday and shows the waitlist now represents 4.8 per cent of the province’s population. Using population data from 2025, it shows Pictou County has the largest amount of its population waiting for a health-care practitioner, with 15.4 per cent reported. Many on the list are new to Nova Scotia, lost access to a doctor or nurse, or are seeking access for the first time. Nova Scotia Health is set to update the registry again early October.
