Residents of the historic community of North Preston, N.S., came together Saturday for one of its biggest summer celebrations, with hundreds of residents and visitors gathered to mark the 19th annual North Preston Day. The day started with a community breakfast and followed with the always popular parade which worked its way around the community with floats, classic and new sports cars, ATV’s, music and more. “It’s important for the community and a way to show some spirit,” said organizer Miranda Cain. There was live entertainment, family fun activities like bouncy castles and more. Organizers say the event is meant to celebrate the rich history and spirit of North Preston, which is recognized as Canada’s largest and oldest Indigenous Black community. “It’s about our legacy,” said Cain. “And a community sense of pride and a place to be proud from.” The annual event continues to draw lots of people and former residents home for the celebration.
