If you’re a nurse on Prince Edward Island, the province wants to hear from you. The P.E.I. government is asking nurses to share their experiences and ideas to help shape the province’s first Provincial Nursing Strategy. The five-year strategy aims to support and strengthen the nursing workforce on P.E.I. “Listening to nurses is essential to building a strong and sustainable health care system,” said P.E.I. Health and Wellness Minister Cory Deagle in a statement Friday. “Their voices will guide this work and help ensure the strategy reflects the realities nurses face every day and the solutions they know will make a difference.” The province says focus groups are being held with a wide range of nursing professionals who work in different roles and settings. All P.E.I. nurses, nursing students and nursing educators are also encouraged to participate in an online survey from now until July 10. The strategy will focus on the following key priorities: A steering committee has also been formed to support the development of the Provincial Nursing Strategy. “Our goal is to build a nursing workforce that is supported, empowered and equipped to meet the needs of Islanders now and into the future,” said Marion Dowling, the provincial chief of nursing, professional practice, & system integration. “We encourage every nurse in PEI to take part and help shape this important work.” For more P.E.I. news, visit our dedicated provincial page.
