Cape Breton comedy duo Tracy and Martina are heading to the movies. The pair – best known for their over-the-top characters, viral videos and podcast – are debuting their first feature film at the Charlottetown International Film Festival. The movie, “Tracy and Martina Going Out West,’ follows the duo on tour in Alberta, capturing the chaos of life on the road. “It’s a look behind the curtain. People don’t get to see us like that a whole bunch,” said Tracy in an interview with CTV Atlantic’s Katie Kelly. The film is about two best friends from Cape Breton who go to Alberta for the first time “with the hopes of making a few bucks as they open for a local band, but things go south when their accommodations fall through and they run out of money before booking a flight back home.” The project was directed by longtime collaborator Brendan ‘Moose’ Lyle. “They’re unpredictable. I kind of just let them do what they’re going to do. And I think that’s what makes them magical,” said Moose. The Charlottetown screening is already sold out, and the pair say they are not surprised. “We’re very famous around PEI. Last time we did a show in there we sold out, 450 people were at that show,” said Tracy. For Moose, the film marks another milestone – his first feature film. “It’s a dream, it’s really nice. I think I was 15 when I started doing music videos and the goal at the end of the day was always to get into feature films.” Tracy and Martina say they hope the project leads to more opportunities. “We’d like to have a TV show – so maybe this will spin off into something else. You never know,” said Martina. “Tracy and Martina Going Out West” debuts at the Charlottetown International Film Festival, which runs Oct. 15 to 19.
