On Sunday, Barrie Police were among the many police services across Ontario that had set up R.I.D.E. checkpoints. Known as Reduced Impaired Driving Everywhere, the checkpoints allow law enforcement to proactively monitor impaired driving incidents. Barrie Police say approximately 400 drivers were stopped. From them, six total charges were laid, police say. These include one charge for impaired driving, a charge for no insurance and a charge for cannabis possession. Additionally, police say three Highway Traffic Act tickets were handed out as well. One driver also had their licence suspended for seven days.
