Sunday marks exactly one year since Barrie was rocked by a house explosion that took the life of a local father and husband, an incident that remains without a known cause. At around 12 p.m. on August 9, 2025, a ground-shattering blast was felt across the entire city as emergency crews were rushed to the explosion and large fire that followed at 65 Marshall Street. The horrifying scene was captured by a next-door security camera, which shows neighbours relaxing with their pets before the household blew up in flames and debris. A 45-year-old man was pulled from the rubble and rushed to hospital with critical injuries. Police later confirmed he was pronounced dead. An obituary identifies him as Ryan McEachern, a husband and father. The home was completely destroyed and other nearby properties sustained notable damage. No other injuries were reported. To this day, the Ontario Fire Marshal (OFM) has yet to confirm a cause. “The incident remains under investigation, and there is no further information to share at this time,” stated an OFM spokesperson in an email to CTV News on Saturday. Both the 65 and 67 Marshall Street addresses remain fenced off with posted ‘Order to Remedy Unsafe Building’ notices from the city.
