A slew of road closures are coming to south Winnipeg. Starting at 10 p.m. Thursday night, construction crews will be intermittently closing northbound Pembina Highway at Abinojii Mikanah. The City of Winnipeg said each closure will last 10 minutes or fewer, fully reopening at 2 a.m. the next day. Two major routes closing for Friday, Saturday events The city said it is rerouting traffic for Friday’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers game. Before kickoff, it will open two westbound lanes on Abinojii Mikanah at River Road. Plus, on Saturday between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m., Chancellor Matheson Road between Rh Way and University Crescent will close for the University of Manitoba’s Bison Block Party. Weekend closures on Pembina Highway at Abinojii Mikanah The Pembina Highway and Abinojii Mikanah intersection will close again this weekend for construction. On both Saturday and Sunday, northbound Pembina will be reduced to one lane between Adamar Road and Chancellor Drive. On Saturday, two ramps will be closed. It includes the one taking drivers from northbound Pembina to westbound Abinojii Mikanah and the left-turn ramp from westbound Abinojii Mikanah to southbound Pembina. The city said all westbound vehicles on the ramp must turn right onto Pembina. Then, on Sunday, the eastbound Abinojii Mikanah ramp going onto northbound Pembina will close, meaning all eastbound vehicles must turn right onto Pembina. Of note, drivers will not be able to travel from northbound Pembina onto the ramp towards eastbound Abinojii Mikanah. Pembina Highway and University Crescent The city said on Saturday and Sunday that drivers will not be able to access Pembina from northbound University Crescent, and all northbound University Crescent traffic must exit onto the eastbound Abinojii Mikanah ramp. It also said southbound Pembina drivers will not be able to turn onto southbound University Crescent.
