Smoke and flames could be seen from the roof of a Collingwood retirement home Saturday morning. According to Collingwood fire officials, the Balmoral Retirement Residence on Harbour Street West caught fire at around 9:15 a.m. and crews extinguished it by around 12 p.m. The blaze required three different fire departments to get it under control. Officials say two staff members were assessed on scene for possible smoke inhalation. The fire was contained to the exterior, as the possible cause was from roof repairs, fire crews say. Simcoe County Emergency Management also attended the scene along with the fire departments in case any residents needed to be rehoused, but according to officials, no one was displaced. It is unknown what the damage is at this time.
