Ralphy’s Retreat Animal Sanctuary in Wyebridge Ont., is turning to the community for support following a tumble of terrible events that has left the retreat in a crisis.
The sanctuary, known for supporting elderly, special needs, and rescued farm animals, was hit hard by the ice storm last March. Ever since, a ripple of events have left members searching for additional support.
The ice storm caused widespread damage to the property, destroying fencing, damaging animal enclosures, and leaving the grounds flooded and caked in mud, according to members of Ralphy’s.
“The amount of snow and rain we have had have contributed to the flooding of our animal pens, making the cleanup process even more difficult and our beloved animals surrounded in mud,” shared members.

According to representatives, on top of the storm, the heavy snow and rain over the last few days has only worsened the situation, making clean-up efforts nearly impossible without help from outsiders.
To make matters worse, a volunteer at the sanctuary said a vehicle recently drove through their cow field, causing further damage to the already mangled property.
Volunteers are worried for the animals, “The extreme stress over the past few months have greatly impacted their normally peaceful sanctuary,” volunteers shared.
In response, Ralphy’s is organizing a volunteer work day on Saturday, April 12, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is asking for volunteers with chainsaws, wood chippers, and vehicles capable of transporting debris.
A vegan lunch and refreshments will be provided for all people who come out to support.
