Its a weekend marked on many calendars for different reasons. First-year students are moving into residence at Georgian College and families from around the province are helping with their move. Devon Goodman is a first-year student moving from Port Perry and she said its a little nerve-wracking moving into a new place. “Having to be on my own the whole time, just like the independence and just experiencing something new that’s unknown to me,” said Goodman. Hundreds of students are expected to move in over the weekend with dozens of students and volunteers around to help with the transition. Ashton is a residence advisor at Georgian and said its one of his favourite times of the year. “It’s thrilling, it’s some people’s first time being away from home, it’s some people’s first time living on their own,” He said. “It’s a really great experience to experience ourselves and watch other people get to go through.” President and CEO of Georgian College Kevin Weaver was on hand Friday to personally welcome students back to campus. “Exciting day, there’s nervousness, excitement, new students moving in.” said Weaver. “Leaving home many for the first time, it’s just an exciting start to this school year.” More than 8000 students are enrolled in Georgian this semester with more than 4000 first-year students. “We’ve launched some new programs and they’re off to a great start. And you know, we’re seeing a lot of interest in what we’re doing here at Georgian
