OPP charge two youth for riding without these essentials

Two youths are facing charges after police say they were riding around on electric bikes without basic requirements.

On Saturday, provincial police made a traffic stop in the area of Grey Road 19 and Sixth Street in Collingwood when officers observed two off-road electric motorcycles without licence plates.

OPP says both riders were 15-years-old.

An investigation by police led to four charges for both youths, for failure to have a driver’s licence, licence plate, permit and insurance.

Police say they may additionally charge the owner of the electric motorbikes with operation of a motor vehicle by an unlicensed person, failing to have a valid permit, failing to have a licence plate and failing to maintain insurance.

If any of the youth are convicted of the charges laid against them, police say the province will generate a driver’s licence number for them and if/when a driver’s licence is obtained by them later in life, these convictions will appear on their driving record, along with any possible future infractions.
