Police find a weapon and drugs during traffic stop in Alliston

For Provincial Police, a traffic stop in Alliston resulted in a much more serious investigation and a list of charges for two residents of New Tecumseth.

According to Nottawasaga OPP, the July 10 traffic stop was initiated because the vehicle in question was identified as one that had been allegedly rented using a fraudulent driver’s licence.

Once the stop was executed, police investigated the three occupants of the vehicle and found a variety of items.

According to police, searches resulted in the seizure of 21 grams of cocaine, 2.8 grams of fentanyl, 1.5 grams of methamphetamine and 36 milligrams of hydromorphone in pills.

OPP say they also seized other drug trafficking paraphernalia, stolen mail, multiple fraudulent identification cards and stolen and/or fraudulent credit cards.

During the search, police say one of the occupants was also found to be in possession of a switchblade knife, a prohibited weapon under Canadian law.

The three occupants of the vehicle were arrested and charged. Police say the arrests helped conclude a previously ongoing drug trafficking investigation that began in spring.

A short time later, a fourth individual was arrested in connection with the investigation.

In total, four people, two residents of New Tecumseth and two of Toronto, were arrested and charged.

A 44-year-old from New Tecumseth now faces charges of possession of a prohibited weapon obtained by crime. The individual also faces four counts of possession of a Schedule 1 substance, two counts for opioids and two more counts for cocaine and methamphetamine.

A 37-year-old from New Tecumseth faces similar charges: four counts of possession of a Schedule 1 substance, two counts for opioids and two more counts for cocaine and methamphetamine.

A 24-year-old from Toronto faces the same four charges for drug possession but also faces additional charges of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

A 28-year-old from Toronto has been charged with possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000, identity theft, personation with intent, fraud under $5,000 and possession of a credit card obtained by crime.
