Barrie police are turning to the public to help find out what happened at Kempenfest on Friday night. According to police, a 16-year-old girl was assaulted at the waterfront event on July 31 around 10 p.m. Police say she suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being assaulted, but questions remain about what exactly happened and who was involved. Barrie police are asking residents with information about the incident to contact them. Police are also reminding residents to avoid publicly disclosing any identifying information about any youth involved in the incident. Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, sharing a young offender’s name, photo, school information or other distinguishing details is “a serious offence,” according to police. The Youth Criminal Justice Act’s restrictions apply to social media, digital publications and broadcasting as well.
