Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say an internal investigation continues despite charges being dropped against a Southern Georgian Bay officer. On Aug. 18, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) announced the arrest of Sergeant Blake Hamilton, who was charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of breach of trust. The SIU said allegations against him had been brought forth by a woman of Tay Township earlier in the year. On Oct. 2, charges against Hamilton were dropped once he accepted a peace bond. “The OPP is aware of the court’s decision to withdraw charges of sexual assault and breach of trust against Sgt. Hamilton upon accepting a peace bond,” the OPP said in a statement shared with CTV News on Tuesday. “Sgt. Hamilton has been suspended with pay since February 25, 2026,” the statement read. “He remains suspended with pay as the OPP is conducting its own non-criminal investigation into the matter, relevant to the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019, which sets out the standards and expected behaviour for police officers,” the OPP explained. The police organization went on to say further details could not be shared, citing an open investigation.
