Stolen bicycle bust in downtown Barrie results in drug charges, police say

Barrie Police say the stop and search of a man allegedly being in possession of a stolen bike, resulted in several other charges being laid.

On Wednesday afternoon, police say an officer spotted a man riding bicycle on Dunlop street near Mary Street, that matched the description of a bike previously reported stolen.

The officer stopped the man on the bicycle, informed him the bike had been reported stolen and placed him in custody. A search of the man resulted in the officer finding drugs believed to be suspected cocaine.

According to police, the drugs were found in three golf ball sized bags. The suspect was also found to be in possession of a significant amount of cash.

A 39-year-old man was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking (methamphetamine and cocaine), and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The cycle, believed to be valued at $1,300 was later returned to its owner.
